Physical Characteristics and Resource Endowments
 
Marawi City is nestled on Plateau, 833 meters above sea level. The city is nature-blessed with its greenery of fast flat lands and gentle rolling hills complemented with cool and pleasant weather all year through. Marawi lies on Lake Lanao’s northern shore. Its elevation makes its view from lake eye-catchingly majestic. 
 
LAND AREA Marawi’s land area is 87.050 square kilometers representing 2.26% of Lanao del Sur’s area. 3,383.80 ( 38.87%) is classified agricultural while 5,321.20 (61.13% ) is classified as non agricultural ( residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and national parks.

ACCESSIBILITY 
 
From the north coming from Iligan City, one can find the way to Marawi through 36 km concrete highway. The Lumbia airport in Cagayan de Oro City is about 137 kilometers away. A well paved 78 km national highway connects Marawi from Malabang extending up to Polloc Port for another 35 kms. And another 22 kms. To Cotabato City and the awing Airport Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. 
 
The city’s TOPOGRAPHY falls under Relief no. 4 depicting a hilly or gentle rolling landscape. While the soil types vary from silty-clay to sandy clay loam favorable for pasture and permanent crop cultivation. 
 
CLIMATE. The lowest recorded temperature was about 12.0 degrees Celsius. Its cool temperature dwindles between 16.0 to 22.0 degrees centigrade. It falls under dominantly type F characterized by even distribution of rainfall throughout the year. The city is naturally shielded from typhoons registering and average rainfall of 2,826 millimeters.

            Marawi City is endowed with potential tourist-destination spots which include natural and colorful cultural festivities proudly portraying the Maranao people’s unique culture and tradition. The City Government has cause the construction of a separate building to house the tourism office. When completed the new tourism office will showcase Maranao culture and promote indigenous products.
